Workshop on self-defence techniques held at KCT

Coimbatore: A three-day self-defence workshop ‘Porthozhil Palagu’ was held at Kumaraguru College of Technology here.

Kumaraguru Tamil Mandram, Vanavarayar Foundation, Nagam Pathinaaru Kalai Koodam, Panruti, Aasu Silamba Porekalai Kalagam, Sipang Silamba Kalagam, Malaysia had jointly organised this 3-day workshop on defence techniques, which began on July 6. People from various parts of Tamil Nadu, Malaysia and Singapore took part in the workshop.



Dr.V.Manavalagan, Chennai, Orissa Balu (A) Mr. Shiva Balasubramani, Chennai, Kalainanmani Mahaguru  Chidambaram and Peraasaan Dato A Sivakumar inaugurated the workshop.

Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, KCT, Dr. A.Manavalagan and Mr. Shiva Balasubramani inaugurated the exhibition of the ancient tools, which was a part of the training camp.  On day 2, students were trained on Aasukalai and Varmakalai by Aasaan Rajadurai and Mr. Ramesh Babu, respectively. 

One of the ancient arts originated in Tamil Nadu is Varmakalai. It uses the pressure points of the body as a cure or to attack the enemy. At the end of the day, Mr. Ramesh Babu, Varmakalai Trainer spoke about Varmakalai and its significance in the field of Medicine. 

Aasaan Rajesh Ram briefed about the fighting methods in Varmakalai. Malaysia Aasaan Datto Mahaguru Siva Kumar trained the students in the martial arts which is being taught in Malaysia. 

Foreign delegates, professors and experts from 17th World Tamil Internet Conference organized by International Forum for Information and Technology in Tamil visited the training camp.

The Silambam groups who were participating in the workshop performed various types of Martial arts and enthralled the audience.
