Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a male elephant aged around 35 was found dead in a private farm in Karadimadai beat of Madukkarai Range in Mathipalayam today.

Initial investigation revealed that the animal that was found near an electric fence put up around the farm of Chandran, could have died of electrocution.

Chandran had reportedly electrified the fence directly rather than connecting it to a battery run by solar. Usually, the fences allowed by the department gives power in frequent intervals thereby giving the animal a chance to escape once it’s hit.

Since the power line was direct, the animal could not escape and fell inside the farm planted with pumpkins.

The local people including farmers argued with forest officials and police personnel as people.

Claimed that forest personnel did not arrive at the spot for guiding the animal away from the farm. It had entered the farm late night yesterday.

Later, Veterinary team headed by Forest Veterinary Officer N.S. Manohar arrived at the spot and carried out the post mortem.

Officials said that actions would be taken against the owner of the property on which the animal was found dead.
