Coimbatore airport expansion: State government to allocate Rs.2,000 crore for compensation

Coimbatore: The negotiation between the landowners and officials regarding the land acquisition for the airport runway expansion is reaching its conclusion as Rs.900 per sq.ft for agricultural lands and Rs.1,500 for residential areas has been proposed as compensation in the report filed by the team headed by Commissioner of land administration.

Speaking about this one of the officials said, “The negotiation between the officials and landowners for land acquisition of airport runway expansion have lasted for past few years. Earlier, Rs.200 to Rs.500 per sq.ft was allocated as compensation to which the landowners didn’t agree. Later after a series of negotiations between both sides the team headed by Commissioner of land administration has proposed allocation of Rs.900 per sq.ft for agricultural lands and Rs.1,500 for residential areas. Three cents land along with the compensation will be provided to people who lose their houses in this land acquisition”.


He also added that Rs.17,000 is proposed as compensation for each coconut tree. For this, a total amount of whooping Rs.2 thousand crores will be allocated by the government. The expansion works of the airport will gain its momentum in upcoming days.
