Coimbatore City police arrest 2 repeat offenders involved in chain snatching, burglary

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City police yesterday arrested 2 repeat offenders who were involved in various crimes within the city limits. Police recovered various properties worth Rs.25 lakhs from the culprits.

According to police, the culprits, A Shajahan (20) from Itteri in Podanur and Raghu (27) from Nilgiris were involved in chain snatching at Singanallur, Peelamedu, and Saravanampatti police limits.


A special team, under the supervision of Perumal, Deputy Commissioner (Crime) was formed to nab the culprits. The team checked the CCTV camera footages collected from the crime sites. Yesterday, during vehicle checks conducted by the special team near Kalapatti road, they arrested the culprits who were travelling via that way in a luxury car.

On investigation, police found that the duo has committed several crimes together in the city and have even stolen a car from a house in Kanyakumari. According to police, Shajahan was wanted in several robbery cases registered in various police stations here. Similarly, Raghu was wanted in burglary cases registered in the city.

Police recovered 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery, one luxury car, and two motorcycles, worth Rs.25 lakhs from the offenders. Later, the duo were sent to judicial custody.
